Light a Candle
Cornelius Robert Shanahan Van Gorp, our son Casey, was born in Texas, on a windy day, November 12, 2003. He blew into our lives with such strength and contagious wnthusiasm. He lived nine strong years and impacted most anyone who knew him. His two-year battle with cancer elevated his strength to level that seemed inhuman. Where once he expressed strength physically through rock climbing, swimming, charter fishing, cycling and organized sports, his energy was rerouted spiritly. Physical limitations did not stop him from planning his future. He was in control. He reflected and processed thoughts that were profound and mature beyond his years. Many of his outlests included drawing, sculpting, writing, critquing movies, researching for the latest collection, and finding strength through God. And althought he spendt his last months in a hospital bed, his strgth was undeniable and frequently noted by all. So, wehn he felt a shiftg in engergy above, he chose quietly and peacefully to leave his unhealing body and free himself of all his physical suffering. Casey passed early, Saturday morning, September 21, 2013: The National Day of Peace.
He was a role model scout and student of Wyandot Run Elementary School in Powell. He had so many freinds and family supporting him and fighting the battle so closely with their undying love and prayers. He was a reliable friend, always respectful and loyal. He lived by the golden rule and certaingly expected the same from others.
Survived by his sister Molly, 13 who is his contant supporter and teammate forlife. His parents, Cornel and Kathleen were ever devoted to his newsest causes and projects. They are so proud to be a part of his life that fulfiled their and continues to every dday they live in the memory of their super hero son, Casey.
